BASILICA OF BOM JESUS

CHURCH OF BASILICA OF BOM JESUS was constructed around 1695 and it became an important milestone in the historical legacy of Christianity. The name of the Church, Bom Jesus basically means "Good Jesus" and is used for Jesus when he was an infant. 
St. Francis Xavier was a member of the Society of Jesus who preached the enlightening teachings of Christianity when he came to India along with the Portuguese. 
While on a voyage to China from India, he died on the ship on 2nd December, 1552.

BHAGWATI TEMPLE

BHAGWATI DEVI TEMPLE is said to be more than 500 years old. There are two life size images of elephants in standing position, made of black stone on either side at the entrance to welcome the visitors. The Goddess Bhagavati Asthbhuja is in a standing position on a high pedestal which is very imposing.

BRAHMADEV MANDIR

BRAHMADEV MANDIR is the only temple in Goa that is dedicated to Lord Brahma and is also one of the few important temples found in India that is dedicated to Lord Brahma.
The image of Lord Brahma seen in this temple is known to have been brought here by a large section of devotees who escaped the religious intolerance.

CHURCH OF OUR LADY

CHURCH OF OUR LADY OF THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION, This church was one of the first to be built in Goa, certainly being there by 1541.
The interior of the church is relatively simple by the standards of the time although the backdrop to the main altar, dedicated to Mary Immaculate, is impressive enough.
However, it is the two flanking altars that catch the eye, that on the left dedicated to Jesus Crucified and that on the right to Our Lady of the Rosary.

LADY OF THE ROSARY

CHURCH OF OUR LADY OF THE ROSARY is located on the Holy Hill at the extremity to the west of the Basilica of the Bom Jesus.
Built of laterite and plastered with lime mortar, it has a two-storeyed portico. The portico as well as the façade of the church has rounded towers on either side with the cross on top. The roof of the church is tiled, supported by wooden rafters.

RUDRESHWAR TEMPLE

RUDRESHWAR TEMPLE is close to the idyllic Arvalem Waterfalls.
The image of Rudreshwar is facing the waterfall. While leaving the temple of Rudreshwar, one can descend the staircase to look at a majestic waterfall shedding its exuberant silvery showers.

Se CATHEDRAL

CHURCH OF Se CATHEDRAL is famous for its giant bell known as the "Golden Bell".
The bell is known for its melody and rich tone and is the largest bell in Goa and one of the best in the world.
The walls of the church are decorated with lovely paintings that are quite old. On the right side of the main altar, there is a chapel of Cross of Miracles. It is said that here a vision of Jesus Christ had appeared in the year 1919.
They say since then, the cross hung over there has been growing in size slowly.
There is a golden screen just behind the main altar in the church that looks splendid. The Se Cathedral is a must visit while touring Goa.

St. CAJETAN

St. CAJETAN CHURCH had been constructed using laterite blocks and has been plastered with lime. The stunning altars are golden and are decorated with lovely carvings in the Baroque style.
The architectural style of the temple is very famous all over the world and never fails to amuse tourists who visit this place.
Inside the church, you will find three altars at the left that are dedicated to Holy family of Our Lady of Piety and St. Clare. On your right, you will find the altars of St. Cajetan, St. John and St. Agnes.

St. FRANCIS OF ASSISI

St. FRANCIS OF ASSISI CHURCH is located to the west of the Se Cathedral is the former palace of the Archbishop that connects the Se Cathedral to the Convent and Church of St. Francis of Assisi.
The structure is built of laterite blocks and is lime-plastered. The church faces west and has a nave with three chapels on either side, a choir, two altars in the transept and a main altar. To the north of the main altar is a belfry and a sacristy.
The convent, which forms an annexure to the church, now houses the Archaeological Museum.

TAMBDI MAHADEV TEMPLE

TAMBDI SURLA MAHADEV TEMPLE is the only structural Temple of the Kadamba period belonging to the 13th century which has survived.
The Temple was built of black basalt with slab roof design over the main hall and a typical Dravidian style Shikara and carved ceiling.
There is a linga (symbol of Lord Shiva) mounted on a pedestal inside the inner sanctum, and local legend has it that a huge king cobra is in permanent residence in the dimly lit interior. On route to Temple you can view waterfalls and a glimpse of wildlife sanctuary.

GANAPATI TEMPLE

SHREE GOPAL GANAPATI TEMPLE is situated on the slope of the hillock known farmagudi amidst beautiful natural surroundings near Bandora where the stone image of Gopal Ganapati was discovered by herdsmen while grazing cattle near the hill and was later installed in a small shrine.

MALLIKARJUN TEMPLE

MALLIKARJUN TEMPLE lies in an enchanting location in a valley, completely surrounded by blue mountains and greenery. The temple itself is at least 200 years old, as per the writing on a plaque near the temple dome.
The temple is believed to have been constructed during the Middle of the 16th century by ancestors of the Kshatriya Samaj. It was renovated in the year 1778. The temple is dedicated to Shri Mallikarjun who is yet another incarnation of Lord Shiva.

MANGUESH TEMPLE

MANGUESH TEMPLE is located at Priol-Ponda, Goa.
According to the legends Lord Shiva had manifested into a tiger to scare Parvati. Parvati who was paranoid at the sight of the tiger went in search of Lord Shiva. Parvati was supposed to say “Trahimam Gireesh” but instead out of nervousness she said: “Trahimangeesh”.
The 400-year-old Shri Mangesh temple dedicated to Shiva stands out with its simple and yet exquisitely elegant structure.
A beautiful seven-storeyed deepstambh (lamp tower), stands at the gates in the temple complex. The temple also has a magnificent water tank, which is believe to be the oldest part of the temple.

NAVDURGA TEMPLE

NAVDURGA TEMPLE is among the famous religious places in Goa and houses an incarnation of Goddess Parvati and the consort of Shiva known as Goddess Nav Durga.
The temple is dedicated to goddess Nav Durga, the temple is believed to be more than 500 years old and was renovated in the year 1603.
The presiding deity worshipped at the temple is Mahishasuramardini who is the ferocious form of goddess Durga and this beautiful idol of the deity is carved out of a stone which is about 4 ft in height.

RACHOL SEMINARY

RACHOL SEMINARY was built in 1580, the Rachol Seminary and Church was converted into the Diocesan Seminary in 1762. It has a Surrounding of beautiful, golden rice fields, this is also one of the first few seminaries on Goa.

SHANTADURGA TEMPLE

Situated 32 Kms from Panaji, Shree SHANTADURGA TEMPLE has an impressive idol of Goddess Shree Durga who mediated between Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva and stopped the fierceful war going on between the two. She is flanked by Vishnu and Shiva on both the sides. The temples of Shree Shantadurga and Shree Mangesh, two of the most revered patron deities of the Hindu Goud Saraswat Brahmin community are located in Queula and Mangeshi respectively in the Ponda district of South Goa.
This avatar of Shree Jagdamba Devi which had come to make peace [Shanti] between Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva, came to be known as Shree Shantadurga Devi.

St. ALEX

St. ALEX CHURCH is one of the oldest churches in Goa. It was built in 1597 amidst a scenic natural backdrop of a Lake Angoddi Tollem, across woods on the site of an ancient Hindu temple.
The temple was dedicated to the deity Ravalnath (a form of Lord Shiva). The remains of the ancient temple of Ravalnath are still visible today.
The church of St Alex was first a chapel church; in 1808 it was converted to a church.
